ANTISANA - ECOLOGICAL RESERVE ( 1 Day)
The best possibility to see Andean condors in
Ecuador is in the area of the Antisana, the fourth highest snow
peaked volcano of Ecuador (5.753 m). When approaching the mountain
you can observe a great flow of lava and a
series of cliffs where the condors spend the night.
Above we find great highlands and the Lagoon of the
Mica where rapacious birds live in an absolutely virgin
atmosphere. The mountain has massive glaciers that feed water
to the lakes and rivers of the area which the abundant wild
life of the region. For centuries, the beautiful landscapes
of the Antisana could only be reached by scientists,
geographers and intrepid hikers. Today this wonderful highland
is accessible for us to visit. Box lunch can be eaten in the
park, anywhere you please, otherwise the lunch will be in a
hacienda close to the volcano.
TREKING ECUADOR CONDOR FLIGHT (4 Days / 3 nights)
DAY 1:
From Quito transport by car to El Tambo on the highlands of
Papallacta. From here equipment and luggage is carried by mules
and the trek(4 hours) head south-west to the lower plains around
the volcano lake. Camp 1 at 3800 m. (BL, D).
DAY 2:
Early start for the longest trek (5-6 hours) of the trip. Some
hill climbing is to start later on crossing a luxuriant polilepis
forest, then with beautiful views throughout the day. Arrival
at the next camp on the north-western side of the Antisana volcano
at Santa Lucia highlands from where we can enjoy magnificent
views of Antisana volcano. There is also a possibility of seeing
condors at some time during the day. Camp 2 at 4200 m. (B, BL,
D)
DAY 3:
(6 hours trek). Trek towards the base of the southern peak of
Antisana, traversing the moraines at the foothills of the beautiful
volcano. Camp is set at 4500 m, just below the southern peak.
The landscape here is spectacular! (B, BL, D)
DAY 4:
Trekking towards the Mica lagoon where we will meet our car
and then be transported back to Quito. On your way down to the
high Antisana plateau watch for condors. (B, BL) .
THE ROUTE OF THE CONDOR( 2 Days / 1 night)
An adventure in to the Andean
highland. First we will visit the National Park
Cotopaxi continuing on roads aside used by
traditional tourist we will reach the Pucará
of the Salitre.
We will stay in a Hacienda that awaits for
us with hot dinner and a warming fire.
At dawn, we will leave well equipped to ride and
to walk for the skirts of the Volcanoes
Rumiñahui and Pasochoa. The
activity level is soft or moderate according to your interest.
But it is required
to be in adequate physical condition and to be familiar with
Ecotourism.
